Module Global Logistics Management

The globalization of value creation systems and markets makes great demands on logistics. The module Global Logistics Management provides for these demands by giving students a better access to understand logistics in an international context. Students learn about logistical interrelations and influencing factors of globally operating companies.

The ability of firms to purchase, produce and distribute their goods internationally, as well as the ability to coordinate their activities with suppliers and customers throughout several value-creating steps is already today a basic prerequisite in many sectors for a competitive economic activity. A bottleneck can be a serious obstacle for growth, while competing firms use their special abilities to generate additional benefits for the customer and a sustainable competitive advantage for themselves.

Learning Objectives

The module Global Logistics Management conveys the general framework for globally operating firms. Firstly, aspects specific to markets such as import restrictions, customs regulations and legal bearings are covered. Secondly, the module communicates the challenges and the sphere of activity of a global logistic management. Moreover, sector specific characteristics are highlighted and corresponding logistic strategies are derived. For this purpose, students will work on practical problems, namely on case studies, to critically reflect the range of topics.
