MULi-Project - Minimising the Environmental Impact of Delivery Traffic in Conurbations by Means of Intelligent Traffic Situation Information and Forecasts

MULi-Project stands for "Minimierung der Umweltbelastung durch den Lieferverkehr in Ballungsgebieten mittels intelligenter Verkehrslage-informationen und -prognosen".

Traffic - especially delivery traffic - is considered the main cause of pollutant emissions in conurbations. Against this backdrop, optimising inner-city freight transport offers the potential to reduce emissions and resource consumption and thus make a significant contribution towards sustainable and efficient logistics.

The MULi project takes up this topic and investigates, on the one hand, which influencing variables are necessary for the evaluation of emissions/operating data in delivery traffic and with which sensors and mobile data processing or communication systems (on-board units) the necessary data can be collected. The monitoring model to be developed should relate the emissions and resource consumption to the logistics service and allow the sustainability of transport-related services to be assessed. On the other hand, the requirements for a dynamic planning procedure with an evaluation function for dynamic routing as well as for forecast-based route planning will be investigated. The planning/routing model to be developed will for the first time take into account traffic forecast data as well as environmental aspects.

The aim of the joint project MULi is therefore to develop and provide a cost-effective telematics solution for route-optimised and thus energy-efficient, low-emission route planning as well as traffic situation-dependent vehicle routing. The solution is to be explicitly oriented towards the needs of SMEs through recourse to open standards and cost-effective technologies.
