Distribut(e) - Green neighbourhood supply chains for the city of tomorrow

The challenges of logistics are growing on a daily basis. Shipments aren't just supposed to be fast, but also flexible. With the trend of dezentralised distribution in the city, the "last mile" has gained considerable significance.

Subject and goal of this project

The goal of the research project Distribut(e) is the development and testing of new business and supply models for local logistics service providers. A special focus lies on sustainability. For this purpose a shared E-logistic was set up at the Klausenerplatz and the Mierendorff-Island in Berlin. Low-threshold service provisions of the Urban Design Thinking will be integrated to help this goal. A support of IT systems is needed to cope with the tasks of the order of local commodities, the managing of future and special deliveries and the organisation of regular routes. The goals of Distribut(e) are:

  • Increase of the "last mile" efficiency
  • Reduction of local delivery traffic and its emissions
  • Support of local production chains
  • Activation of local actors (espacially SME)
  • Indetification of new Sharing- and Value-in-use-concepts
  • Increase of living standards in the neighbourhoods

The Chair of Logistics at the TU Berlin places the focus on the development of components of a neighbourhood logistic and of formats of Co-creation for sustainaböe neighbourhood logistic according to the Urban Design Thinking.
