Log4Jobs - low loss food logistics for jobs in Ethiopia [1]
The resource-efficient supply of a growing world population with
food is one of the core challenges of our society. Today, food is
already being produced for over 12 billion people worldwide, but
almost a third of this food is being lost. While in western
industrialised countries a large part of these losses are attributable
to the end consumer, the opposite picture is emerging in developing
countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
Rather, it is post-harvest losses along the logistics chain (to the
end consumer) that account for the bulk of the losses here. The
project aims to develop solutions for designing low-loss food
logistics and at the same time create more employment opportunities.
This goal will be achieved by applying various research methods and by
involving the relevant stakeholders.

Competence Center for International Logistics Networks [3]
The Competence Center for International Logistics Networks (ILNET)
is endowed by the Kuehne Foundation, which is supporting research on
international logistics networks at TUB since 2005. Over the past
years, ILNET strongly focused on research on robustness in
international logistics research and thereby supported practice in
managing disruption risks and supply chain volatility. To support
supply chain managers in planning robust international networks, ILNET
developed a logistics planning tool – the TUB Logistics Navigator,
which enables a co-creational network planning process among different
partners in the supply chain.

IPLogE – Integration of Practice-oriented Logistics Education
in Ethiopia [5]
As the Ethiopian government has set itself
the goal of becoming a central manufacturing hub in Africa, especially
focusing on the textile and food industry, the logistics sector of the
country represents a core component for achieving the desired economic
growth. However, the current way of teaching logistics on a
university-level is mostly based on educating students on theoretical
logistics concepts, instead of linking those concepts to
practice-relevant content. The project IPLogE aims at improving the
practice-orientation of current logistics education at the Addis Ababa
University (AAU) and adjusting it to the logistics specifics of the
textile and food industry in Ethiopia. This joint project of
Technische Universität Berlin (TUB) and AAU thereby focuses on better
preparing students for upcoming requirements of the labor market and
providing them with opportunities to get in touch with potential
employers earlier.

Pan-African Mobility Alliance (PAMA) [7]
In order to
strengthen Africa's economic development by creating sustainable jobs
in the areas of mobility for economic goods and people, the
Pan-African Mobility Alliance (PAMA) has now been founded in Berlin by
German Development Minister Dr. Gerd Müller together with companies
and the TU Berlin.

SUDLogER – Sustainable Urban Development through Logistics
Education in Rwanda [9]
The project SUDLogER aims at
improving the practice-orientation of current logistics education in
cooperation with the University of Rwanda (UR).

BeIntelli [11]
In the BeIntelli project, a comprehensive
test track for autonomous driving is being set up in the center of
Berlin, on which test vehicles will be deployed in various urban
traffic use cases. With the help of sensor technology, digitally
networked vehicles and cloud-based user platforms, artificial
intelligence methods can be used to predict traffic events and control
mobility. For example, autonomous delivery of parcels over the last
mile is being tested in the B2B and B2C segments of CEP service
providers.

Digital Twin [13]
The goal of the research project is
the investigation and structuring, technical-economic conception and
application-specific simulation and design of digital twin
applications for the real-time planning and control of logistics
networks. On the basis of industry-specific parameters of the
automotive and consumer goods industry, a systematization will be
developed that supports the implementation of digital twin
applications in logistics.

SELECT - AI-based ETA predictions for inland navigation logistics
chains [15]
Within the framework of a cooperation with
various actors of the German port industry (including inland shipping
companies and operators of inland and seaport terminals), the SELECT
project will tap significant potentials for the logistics chains of
inland waterway from the increasing data stock, including Inland AIS.
With the help of artificial intelligence (machine learning), SELECT
will develop a digital decision assistant that enables inland
navigation players to optimise transport processes by providing
arrival time predictions (ETA) and related recommendations for action.

Distribut(e) - Green neighbourhood supply chains for the city of
tomorrow [17]
The goal of the research project Distribut(e)
is the development and testing of new business and supply models for
local logistics service providers. A special focus lies on
sustainability. For this purpose a shared E-logistic was set up at the
Klausenerplatz and the Mierendorff-Island in Berlin. Low-threshold
service provisions of the Urban Design Thinking will be integrated to
help this goal. A support of IT systems is needed to cope with the
tasks of the order of local commodities, the managing of future and
special deliveries and the organisation of regular routes.

Mobility2Grid [19]
The energy system transformation is
shaping up as an extremely complex social challenge. According to the
German government's energy concept, the share of renewable energies
(RE) in electricity generation is to be increased to 60 percent by
2035. By the year 2050, it is even planned that the supply of
electricity, heat and transport will be based almost entirely on
renewable energy sources. Despite the considerable efforts made in
politics, industry and society, implementation is only possible in the
long term, because it means that essential components of the current
supply principle are no longer valid, the necessary business models
are not sustainable and many technical problems have not yet been
solved.

MX Award [21]
The MX Award was initiated with the goal
to identify and facilitate innovative solutions in the field of
production logistics and make them publicly available. Accordingly it
is the goal to set up a network for the communication and creation of
Best Practices in order to promote cross-sector international
cooperation. The phase model of the MX Award "Recognizing Strenths -
Generate Innovation - Setting Standards - Communicate Best Practices"
illustrates this claim as a communications platform as well as a
generator of innovation in research and practice.
