ASONG - Affordable Sustainability for Logistics Networks in Ghana

In a post-pandemic environment where the world economy is struggling to recover, Ghana still profiles itself with a projected annual GDP growth averaging 0.4% in 2020 as one of the fastest-growing countries in the world and as a rising star in Africa. Ahead of the expected increase in the production capabilities of the Ghanaian industry and the related economic activities that may damage environment and society, sustainable processes and approaches must be developed in accordance with the framework conditions of the country. The project ASONG focuses on developing capabilities to create innovative and affordable sustainability solutions for logistic networks through the integration of practice-oriented education on the logistics sector at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). This joint project of the Technische Universität Berlin (TUB) and KNUST thereby focuses on better preparing students for upcoming requirements of the labor market and providing them with opportunities to get in touch with potential employers earlier.

EMNET - Empowering Women in Logistics Networks in Äthiopien

EMNET (Empowering Women in Logistics Networks in Ethiopia) deals with two aspects of the social-ecological transformation of our time: Female Empowerment and circular economy: The project aims to empower and support female students at the Addis Ababa University in logistics to obtain higher qualifications, shape their own careers to enter the job market. Additionally, we aim to help closing the current research gap on the implementation of circular economy logistics in Sub-Sahara Africa, especially Ethiopia. EMNET will be realized in the period from July 2023 to December 2026.

ILNET - Competence Center for International Logistics Networks

The Competence for International Logistics Networks is funded by the Kuehne foundation and seeks to contribute to research and practice in the field of international logistics since 2005. In addition to many topics, ILNET focuses strongly on research on dealing with risks and volatility in logistics networks, looks into the future and tries to show development paths of future international logistics networks, but also investigates new technologies and their effect on logistics management. Even if no regional limitation is made, Europe, Africa and China are the main focus regions. ILNET always seeks to integrate research and practice through various formats such as industry workshops, conferences, management concepts, supply chain case studies for teaching and training, an online logistics planning tool (TUB Logistics Navigator) and many more. Thereby, ILNET works together with a network of globally operating companies as well as internationally renowed universities (e.g. Tonji University and Kuehne Logistics University).

Pan-African Mobilty Alliance

In order to strengthen Africa's economic development by building sustainable jobs in the areas of mobility for economic goods and people, the Pan-African Mobility Alliance (PAMA) was founded in Berlin by Federal Development Minister Dr Gerd Müller together with companies and TU Berlin. The Chair of Logistics at TU Berlin conducts research on novel logistics solutions and supply chains for the development of African countries together with African partners, supports local education and training and organises the exchange of students, doctoral candidates and professors. Through the targeted methodical cooperation of politics, business and science, new supply chains, innovative logistics solutions and mobility offers are to be developed and implemented more quickly in the African compact countries. The aim is to support the industrial value creation of manufacturers and suppliers in the automotive, transport technology, food and clothing industries in Africa.

SUDLogER - Sustainable Urban Development through Logistics Education in Rwanda

As Rwanda pursues becoming a zero-carbon economy by 2050, it faces many challenges providing mobility for inviduals and goods without causing additional traffic congestions and emissions, specially considering the increased demand for e-commerce solutions in the country. In this context, innovative logistics concepts play an essential role in the creation of mobility solutions and promoting the sustainable urban development of Rwanda. Nevertheless, the current way of teaching logistics on a university-level is mostly based on educating students on theoretical logistics concepts, instead of linking those concepts to practice-relevant content. The project SUDLogER aims at improving the practice-orientation of current logistics education at the University of Rwanda (UR) and adjusting it to the logistics specifics of the mobility sector in Rwanda. This joint project of Technische Universität Berlin (TUB) and UR thereby focuses on better preparing students for upcoming requirements of the labor market and providing them with opportunities to get in touch with potential employers earlier.

Research Field Smart Technologies and Digital Logistics Models

BeIntelli

In the BeIntelli project, a comprehensive test track for autonomous driving is being set up in the centre of Berlin, on which test vehicles will be used in various urban traffic use cases. With the help of sensors, digitally networked vehicles and cloud-based user platforms, artificial intelligence methods can be used to predict traffic events and control mobility. For example, the autonomous delivery of parcels over the last mile is being tested in the B2B and B2C segments of CEP service providers.

DiSTILL - Digital simulation tool for the further development of the Lusatian mining area into the International Logistics Hub Lusatia

The aim of DiSTILL is to map the region's logistics infrastructure and the (future) requirements for it in a digital simulation model and make it publicly available. This data-driven tool enables the user to evaluate the logistics performance of the entire region as well as individual locations. Changes in infrastructure and demand can thus be analysed with the help of what-if scenarios.

Research Field Sustainable Logistics in Transport and Value-Added Networks

Mobilty2Grid - Efficient and Networked Systems for the Climate-Neutral City

In the second funding phase of the Mobility2Grid (M2G) research campus, research is being conducted into the transformation of mobility and the transport system, taking into account the energy system, the development of feasible concepts for low-CO2 transport and a low-air pollution and low-noise city. M2G gains knowledge through application-oriented research, concrete application examples and research into the scalability of the integrated transformation solutions developed in M2G.

Research Field Logistics Strategy and Best Practice

MX Award - Manufacturing Excellence Award

The primary goals of the organisers of the Manufacturing Excellence Award are to create a communication platform for experts from science and practice and to promote international and, above all, cross-sectoral cooperation to strengthen the economy. Through the generation of innovative and creative best practice solutions, a sustainable strengthening of the economy should also take place in the holistic interaction at the European location. The declared goal is to strengthen and increase the competitiveness of European companies in an international context.
