Online Workshop "Implications of the COVID Pandemic on Logistics: The Ethiopian Case"

Lupe [1]

When the Coronavirus severely dampened China's productivity at the beginning of 2020, it became clear that international logistics networks will face new challenges. Due to its global spread, the virus has long since become a global threat. While a lot of the debate is focusing on international logistics networks connecting Europe, Asia and North America, the African continent is often left out of the discussion.

This online workshop seeks to tackle this issue by diving deeper into the current COVID challenges and solution approaches in Ethiopian logistics networks.

The Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia and the Competence Center for International Logistics Networks at the Berlin University of Technology (TU Berlin), Germany jointly organize this workshop and aim at facilitating across-industry exchange on good practices and future development paths. By participating you will get insights on how peers from different industries handle the situation and how they are seeking to reinvent their logistics networks during and after the crisis. Moreover, you will get introduced to research findings in this field.

The Project

  • The online discussion is organized by the Competence Center for International Logistics Networks, funded by the Kuehne Foundation, and the project “IPLOGE”, founded by the BMZ and DAAD, in cooperation with the Addis Ababa University
  • The Competence Center aims at supporting businesses in exchanging strategies across industries and in strategically managing their international supply chains.
  • The project “IPLOGE” seeks to improve the logistic performance and development in Ethiopia with focus on the textile and food sectors.
  • From 2013 to 2021 cross-industry industry workshops have been held in Germany at the Berlin University of Technology, in China at the Tongji University Shanghai as well as in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
