Prof. Dr.-Ing. Frank Straube

Curriculum Vitae

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Frank Straube studied industrial engineering at the TU Berlin with a one-year study visit to the University of Grenoble in France. In 1987, he received his doctorate at the Logistics Department of the TU Berlin (Prof. Dr.-Ing. H. Baumgarten). Frank Straube led logistics innovation projects at the TU Berlin and in practice from 1984-1989. From 1990 to 2001 he was chairman of the management board of the internationally active Center for Logistics and Business Planning GmbH (Berlin-Sao Paulo-Boston), which was founded out of the TU Berlin and has more than 100 employees. In 2003 he habilitated at the University of St. Gallen with the topic "e-Logistics".

At the University of St. Gallen, as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kühne Institute for Logistics since 2001, he was responsible for the establishment of a new Chair for Logistics Management and as Director of Studies for the development and implementation of the first German-language Executive MBA Program in Logistics.

In October 2004, he accepted the call to the TU Berlin for the C4 professorship in logistics and has since been head of the logistics department at the Institute of Technology and Management in the Faculty of Economics and Management.

In the science management of the academic self-administration, he has been involved for many years in the function of the managing director of the Institute for Technology & Management, in the Joint Commission for the Industrial Engineering course (GKWi) and as a member of the Faculty Council.

He was Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management at TU Berlin from 2017 to 2019.

He is a member of the Academic Senate (AS) and the Extended Academic Senate (EAS) as well as a deputy member of the Budget Committee of the TU Berlin.

The Department of Logistics has received several awards, including the "German High Tech Champion Award" for the "smart e-user" project for the realization of sustainable and service-friendly electromobile urban logistics and the Logistics University Award of the Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure for excellence in teaching and research on integrated transport and logistics networks. The department also received the faculty's teaching award.

In 2008, Prof. Straube contributed significantly to the establishment of the chair "International Logistics Networks and Services", endowed by the Kühne Foundation, at the Chinese-German University College (CDHK) of Tongji University Shanghai as well as to the development of the double programs in the master's program in industrial engineering and for doctoral studies and is a visiting professor there. In 2005, he established the Competence Center "International Logistics Networks (ILNET)" at the TU Berlin, which has been funded by the Kühne Foundation since then. He was a member of the founding board of trustees and the subsequent advisory board of the Kühne Logistics University (KLU) in Hamburg and has been its supporter for many years. Since 2003, he has been a permanent visiting professor at Panthéon-Assas University in Paris. Research and teaching cooperations of the Logistics Department have also been realized with universities in Abu Dhabi, Sao Paulo, Stanford, Singapore, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Ghana, for example. Several exchange and double master programs of the TU Berlin with international universities are supervised by the Logistics Department.

For many years, in cooperation with the Kühne Foundation, the KLU and other top European universities, further education programs on network management of logistics processes "Netlop" and on European Network Management for Logistics Processes "Enlop" have been designed and implemented.

Prof. Straube was Vice Chairman of the German Logistics Association (BVL) from 1997 to 2009 and a member of its Advisory Board from 2009 to 2021. Every year, he provides content and organizational support for the German Logistics Congress in Berlin, the most important specialist event on logistics in Europe. In Brussels, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the European Logistics Association representing BVL from 2000 to 2017.

He has been Chairman of the Advisory Board of BLG LOGISTICS GROUP in Bremen for many years. On the advisory board of the Rio Cloud Logistics Platform, he supports the development of sustainable logistics services and accompanies the digitalization of Mosolf SE as a technology advisor.

Prof. Straube is the founder of the International Transfer Center for Logistics (ITCL) GmbH for the development and realization of innovative, especially digital and sustainable logistics systems for industrial, trade and transport service companies as well as modern further education activities.

He was appointed to the World Bank's Global Expert Knowledge Network for Sustainable Logistics and Growth.

He is a co-founder of the Pan African Mobility Alliance launched at the 2018 Africa Summit of the German government in Berlin to promote fair and sustainable industrialization and participation in global trade of African Compact states through targeted developments of their logistics capabilities.

He is a member of the Editorial Boards of international scientific journals. He supports the Board of the Association Internationales de la Recherche en Logistique et Supply Chain Management (AIRL-SCM), Paris and its conference Rencontres Internationales de la Recherche en Logistique (RIRL).

Prof. Frank Straube is chairman of the jury of the Manufacturing Excellence Awards and Benchmarking Competition developed from the TU Berlin and awarded annually to strengthen Germany as a production and logistics location. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Global Conference on Sustainable Manufacturing.
